We got up at 5:20am this morning in order to see the famous hot air balloons over the Cappadocia area at sunrise.

Not a balloon in sight, in any direction! 🙄Must be weekends only at this time of year.
A bit miffed as getting up early is not my forte but we made the most of the coolness of the morning and walked down the hill into Göreme. More and more cave dwellings, tall fairy chimneys and houses cut out of the rock. Some very swanky looking rock hotels too. The town seems to be the centre for all things Cappadocia with tour agencies for quad biking, horse riding and hot air balloons.
We walked down to the far side in search of Sword Valley, where the rocks are shaped a bit like ancient swords. Took us a while to find it and it was a long, hot, dusty walk.

Had a coffee in the town on the way back up to give us the strength to get up the hill.
Called at Migros for a bit of shopping but hardly any fruit and vegetables, so left with nothing much.
Drove over towards Love Valley, but it was baking hot, quad bikes and tour buses everywhere. Decided we’d burnt out early and promptly fell asleep for an hour or so!
The temperature was much better later on, so we set off again in search of more rock formations up a very deep, dusty path. Amazing structures again, one of them was almost hollow inside – one earth tremor and I think they’ll all fall down.

Decided to move the van back up onto the hillside overlooking Göreme as we think it might be quieter overnight.
Absolutely spectacular view once the lights started to come on.
