Checking out of the campsite this morning, there were a few surprise add-ons to the bill. Tourist tax first ..ok. Then, a €4 check-in fee!! A check-in fee at a campsite???
I can’t get over it. Suppose they have to find a way to make their money back on the discounted Acsi price, but don’t bother giving it if you’re going to take it away by stealth! Then, it being Camp Lavanda, they send you away with a ‘free’ lavender bag! 🤣 Rant over.
Wound our way back down the Pelješac peninsula, then on to Ploče for a Lidl shop.
Heading north, I was looking for a place to stop for lunch and suggested Brela as the photos looked quite nice. Satnav said it was restricted access and we needed a permit. No parking, no motorhomes signs along the road down. The carpark on the outskirts was virtually empty so we pulled in and risked it for a Swisskit.

This place!! Utterly beautiful, probably one of the best bits of coastline we’ve ever seen – particularly Punta Rata. This pebble beach sits on a pine covered cape jutting into a clear blue Adriatic Sea. The trees are bent over towards the water giving it a real desert island feel – good job there was no sunshine today or we’d have never pulled ourselves away! It was apparently voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by Forbes magazine.

We walked all the way round to the Symbol of Brela – a squat circular rock that stands out on its own and then back to have a look at the harbour. Strangely, most of the hotels that back the shoreline are ugly, seventies, concrete structures but somehow, they kind of blend in so you don’t notice them.

Thinking we’d better get a few more miles done, we carried on north to Omiš, forgetting that there are now ‘No Camping’ signs in our favourite little spot there. 🙄
Had to carry on, but not before going back a mile or two so that we could drive over the new bridge that now spans the Cetina Gorge. It was a bit of a non event – better to look up at, but we had to try it as we saw it being fitted in two halves last year.

Thankfully, we managed to park at Trogir, although half an hours walk from the town. It was already dusk and starting to rain when we set off, but it’s always nice to see the luxury yachts lined up along the riva and walk through the cobbled streets.

Funny to see a chef from a boat having a game of footie with one of the restaurant chefs – probably glad to get a bit of exercise.

Beautiful Brela 24/10/24
