The drive up to Calais from just south of Rouen on Tuesday was a very rainy and miserable one. We didn’t even have a walk as it was torrential at times. Had to content ourselves with a final shop in E.Leclerc near Boulogne …you can easily get a mile in around a supermarket though, especially if you can’t remember what you’ve gone in for!
Tried a different parking in Calais this time as our usual one has gone up to €17. It was extremely windy so we put ourselves next to a big hedge and behind a big German van for shelter.
Up at stupid o clock with the idea of making coffee whilst in the queue. Of course, we were put on an earlier train so I had to stand holding the coffee pot on the hob, praying for it to bubble before we had to turn the gas off. Just in the nick of time!
First stop Sainsbury’s in Folkestone for some picnic food, then straight up to Lee Valley campsite. We had our pitch number and entry code so did a stealthy sneak in, thus hopefully avoiding early check in fee 😬Wouldn’t normally do that but at £40 per night (because it’s half term), we think we’ve paid enough.
Off to London Fields via bus and train. Just enough time for quick inspection of Jordan’s new flat and stick the candles in Colin the caterpillar before birthday boy Callum and Kristina appeared. We had a great time but drank too much so this morning’s packing was very haphazard and the cleaning didn’t get done – it’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
As always, we couldn’t believe the amount of traffic on the M1 and how narrow the lanes are. Home mid afternoon to start the washing mountain.
As for Morocco – what an amazing country. Stunning scenery. Annoying faux guides and feral kids. I think we’ll return but might need a more relaxing trip in the autumn.
Thanks for reading and keeping in touch. See y’all soon.
