After a fill up with diesel and a quick Lidl stop, we carried on north up the tedious A roads. Trying to avoid paying expensive tolls isn’t easy when you’re covering about 1000km through France. Seemed to be even more roundabouts, roadworks and chicanes today.
Pulled into some services in a tiny village to drain some water at lunchtime and I suggested we park by the river for lunch and a walk. As we drove into the carpark at Cloyes-sur-le-Loire, Guy said “We’ve been here before”!🤣 I checked back and sure enough, we had. How come he remembers some random village but not a huge town with a chateau?
Unfortunately, most of the park and riverside were taped off for some reason, so we only got a quack look at the ducks and geese.

Got to Évreux late afternoon and parked by the cathedral. Nice town, seemed very quiet though. Looks like it’s had a lot of money pumped into it with its riverside walks and flowerbeds everywhere.

The cathedral was absolutely massive with a cavernous interior containing a very modern looking organ. There was a striking looking Hotel de Ville complete with fountain outside and a theatre, but aside from these few buildings, the rest of the town seemed quite modern, probably because it was heavily damaged in WW2.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience apparently performed their first show in Évreux in 1966!
Although the parking was nice and quiet, there was a three hour limit, so we had to move on. Not many places to choose from around this area and we’ve ended up a bit further north at a disused train station in Louviers.
According to Park4Night, it’s now occasionally used as a music venue at weekends. Hmmm…
Some bearded rock enthusiasts appear to have turned up for drum practice. 😬
Currently trying to see if we can hire the place from 11pm till 8am so that no-one else does! 🤣
