48D9071F-AF29-43D0-83D6-E90071319141What a day! Thought we’d get the boat into Cadiz at lunchtime but when we arrived at the port there was a queue of people a mile long. Most of them were in fancy dress, singing and dancing. After an hour we realised boats were coming and going but they were filling up with people who had purchased tickets in advance …we could’ve been there all day. Ran about half a mile to get a bus instead and luckily we got a seat.
Walking into the centre of town we realised that this carnival is massive! It goes on all week and I have never experienced anything like it. Virtually everyone was in fancy dress including very old people and young children. All singing, dancing, playing instruments, and what costumes! Everything here from ‘Where’s Wally’s’, octopus, supermen, traffic cones, pizzas, Freddy Mercury(s), conquistadors, Peaky Blinders, Power Rangers, nuns, very friendly policemen/women, doctors, nurses, Saudi princes …you name it, someone was wearing it.
We had a very curious lunch after misinterpreting the menu. Five shrimp fritters, potato salad, some pork on a skewer and a fried egg and chips!!!😂😂😂Haven’t had egg and chips since the 70’s!
Sometime mid afternoon we got stuck in one of the narrow streets around where people were watching a mini performance. People were pushing from all directions…I had a mini panic attack as I thought we’d be crushed. 😬
Out on the edge of town it was relatively calm and Cadiz is so beautiful in places. The buildings and parks are all so exotic looking. There are even green parakeets flitting around.6A997101-B821-4FAC-B72A-AEBB16897A00126ECE39-D6EB-449A-B69D-76781C693EE2
As it got dark, the bins started to overflow and everything got a bit more raucous. Deciding to try and get the boat back, we somehow ended up in the main square again..I have never seen so many people in my life!E78824F0-A307-4D73-98A2-B9E5F31BB77E Luckily, we got a boat ticket with another 45 minute wait, more pushing and shoving but somehow we got on and got a seat. Just the mile and a half to walk once it docked. As we landed we saw another 150 people waiting to go in to town – well, I say people, there was a gang of fag smoking black and white cows, some aliens, the Spice Girls etc etc
Now drinking tea with our feet up, having decided we’re old! 😂🕺
PS Dog of the day would fit very neatly in a motorhome.909E292A-A510-41FB-AD03-7826268EF660
