This morning our wonderful new leisure battery had completely drained itself. Complicated stuff possibly resulting from a little mouse using the van as an Airbnb whilst it was in storage last year.
Anyway, no hot water, no heating and not much light either on a dark morning. Think it’s solved now ..if only temporarily.
Set off for a little village near Brive-la-Gaillarde called Collonges-la-Rouge. Due to a road block, it took us forever to reach the A20, crossing many flooded fields on single track roads. Felt like we were in Finland at one point and it was quite a relief to reach the long, straight and totally free motorway.
We arrived in Collonges to find that the newly built motorhome site in the woods isn’t quite finished yet, so no services, but no charge either!
The heavens then opened for the whole afternoon so we had to dig the umbrellas out when we went for an explore.

Probably one of the most beautiful villages we’ve been to, even on a wet, rainy day! The whole place is built from a striking red sandstone, with chimney pots and turrets atop impossibly sloping roofs. Looks like Hansel and Gretel should live here as there’s even a bread oven in the covered market place.
Not a soul around today, despite the Rough Guide suggesting we should be there early morning or after 5pm if we wanted to avoid the crowds – nothing open either. It must be absolutely beautiful in the summer but not sure I’d like to be a resident.
