Rain this morning but the sun tried to come out towards lunchtime so we made a dash for the train.

We visited the two remaining villages of the Cinque Terre that we missed yesterday.

Corniglia first; the smallest of the villages, high on a cliff above the sea. 377 steps to get up there & it was a bit of an anti climax once we reached the top. It lacked the drama of yesterday’s towns and it was difficult to see it from afar as the steps led straight up on to the same level.

Back on the train to Monterosso which was the largest of the five. More like a mini seaside resort really. Still very picturesque with lots of narrow streets and a striped thirteenth century church. We walked up to the headland on both sides of the bay but decided not to do the hiking trail as it was a bit wet from the earlier rain and I’d no doubt be on my hands and knees, not having the stick with me! We did see a motorhome in this place and wondered how on earth it got there.

There are roads to the Cinque Terre – I was wrong – sorry! Think they’re only suitable for Fiat Cinquecentos though 😂

Loved these five villages and feel privileged to have seen them when they’re not too busy – that’s down to Covid though, so a bit sad too really.

Last stop today was Levanto, which was quite a big resort with regimental parasols all the way along the seafront. The town was interesting as a lot of the houses were painted with false ‘trick of the eye’ balconies, panelling and other decorative details.

Highlight of today though, has to be seeing a wild boar and her three babies on the dry river bed below a bridge near our campsite. I never realised they had quite such long snouts!
