If we’d been able to follow the coast this morning, we’d have been in Dalyan in about ten minutes. Instead, as there was no road, we took an hours drive around the beautiful Köyceğiz lake. The towns were super busy again, but I think there is tourism there due to the hot springs.
After driving down a very busy, narrow shopping street, we managed to park under a tree in the main parking area.

Boats run up and down the river from Dalyan and we thought we’d have a trip to the Iztuzu Beach which is a nesting ground for loggerhead turtles.
Not at £80 though – which was our first quote. The next was £50, and we’d just given up on the idea when we spotted the co-operative water taxis. £10 for both of us and that was return too!
It was quite a long ride downriver with beautiful scenery and a gentle breeze – really enjoyed it.

We passed by the amazing fourth-century BC temple tombs in the cliff face and then carried on through the reeds to the protected area around the mouth of the river. Didn’t see much in the way of wild life, but there was a really long sandy beach and clean sea…we wished we’d taken our swimming stuff with us.
Guy did get a glimpse of a turtle on the way back, but that was it.

De-sanded our feet and then walked into the town as Guy needed a haircut. It was suddenly so English everywhere. Sports bars and all day breakfasts were the order of the day, plus fake designer anything. Plenty of tandem mobility scooters on the go too -I think they’re just available to hire. It all seems like such a weird contradiction when the mosque is around the corner with the call to prayer belting out several times a day.

Fabulous haircut for Guy though, such attention to detail for such a cheap price. We wanted it to go on for hours as the shop was air conditioned!
