Long day, especially for the driver! Drove into Bodrum first – really busy still. We were expecting places to quieten down a bit once September arrived.
Seemed quite a nice city really – all low rise, white sugar cube style apartments and boutique hotels. Difficult to park anywhere, so in our infinite wisdom, we thought we’d drive to the port and see if we could get on the ferry to the next peninsula south, Datça. After driving along a narrow little seafront road to the port, there was a small 90° turn directly onto the boat 🙄Couldn’t do the turn and couldn’t do the boat either – it was way too small!

Nothing for it but to drive all the way round, but somewhere in the process we scrapped the idea of Datça. Didn’t want to do Marmaris, so we ended up at what looked like a beautiful place on the coast called Akyaka. Parking nightmare! We actually got almost stuck in one car park. Ended up risking a ticket in a coach park.
Although it was a very green area with some beautiful buildings, once we got to the sea front, it was absolute bedlam. A bit like Blackpool’s golden mile 🤣The sea was heaving with people too!
The heat has been quite oppressive today, hitting 100°F at one point. We decided to head for a campsite so that we could have electricity and put the fan on.
The next suitable place was Ecincik, about an hour away on rough roads. Got into some mountains near a big lake and then it rained.

There seemed to be three or four campsites next to each other in Ecincik but they all seem to hold about 10-15 little caravans. Turned in past a group of massively overflowing dustbins – not inspiring. First site full. Two places left on this second one. Think we are an absolute novelty here – everyone pointing at the number plate. Thank God for phone translation as we’re still only on three Turkish words. Two very helpful young lads showed us where to park. Later on a plate of food turned up from the owner. This is the third time we’ve been brought food in the last week! They are such kind people.
Had a quick look at the beach, which is dark sand, almost volcanic looking. There’s not much here other than a couple of cafes, but it’s really green all around – very different to the sun scorched areas we’ve come through so far.
