Wow! Another beautiful discovery.

Early-ish start for us, and there was frost on the windows! Good job it was finally Guy’s turn to make the coffee. 7 degrees inside, but we had slept with the roof vent open and no heating on. 🥶

We went in search of a garage first as we had too much oil in the engine so the warning light kept coming on. We were so lucky to find a really helpful man who borrowed the tools from the garage and helped Guy drain some of the oil off. The warning light has now disappeared and the driver is happy again.

Took the van back to its parking spot then walked into Dinan along the banks of La Rance. It had turned into a lovely morning with blue skies and sunshine reflecting off the river. Crossing the old bridge at the picturesque Port de Dinan, we started the steep climb up the cobbled streets into the old town. The colourful medieval houses all perched at wrong angles are just stunning.

The hungry caterpillar needed food and we succumbed to one of Brittany’s fattiest butter cakes – the Kouign-amann or the Kofi Annan – the only way we could remember it! Think multi layered croissant like pastry with triple butter and caramelised sugar. Sure it won’t be fattening. We certainly walked back slower than we did going in.

After a large coffee, we set off south and got a few miles done. Now on another free aire just outside Poitiers…might leave the heating on tonight!
