Nice quiet night by the river in Ghent. Walked into the town after Rufus had had his mini walk. Quite a pretty place especially around the Graslei area. We stood and listened to a Chinese girl sat at one of those pianos they bring in on a cart so that anyone can have a go. She couldn’t have been more than ten years old and just sat studiously playing with her parents and grandparents looking on – very talented. Thought we might have a coffee but it was a bit cool to sit down outside so walked back for lunch. The sun came out, so we sat outside and ate the very smelly Camembert so that it is now safe to open the fridge again. Guy got his blinkers on then and we drove straight to Cologne. Designated parking for motorhomes was full so we filled up with water, emptied the loo then found our own parking right on the banks of the Rhine. We were about 3 miles south but there was a tram stop at the back of us. Took Rufus a walk by the river .. he has a new lease of life and hasn’t had any painkillers since we came away – can’t work it out. Got the tram in the evening but I somehow managed to sit opposite the smelliest tramp in Germany. In our eagerness to avoid throwing up we got off several stops too early. Walked miles to see the cathedral which had scaffolding round it! Cologne was really busy and absolutely buzzing for a Thursday night. We couldn’t find the right tram stop for our return and having asked a receptionist in a hotel, we realised we’d have to get a bus to connect with it. In the end we got a taxi 🚕 – sounds lazy, but we had walked six miles according to Guy’s phone which seems to be spying 👀 on us!!!
