We left the campsite this morning – good job we moved when we did as the grey water was just about spilling out. Drove north first, back up towards Volos to get some food shopping, then followed the coast road south towards the tip of the Pelion Peninsula.
We stopped for lunch in an idyllic little place called Hórto. Parked by the sea next to a row of tamarisk trees, the sun came out and it was lovely for about an hour.

Carried on down the winding road right to the bottom, where the hilltop village of Trikeri leads down to its port town, Ayia Kyriaki. We are parked on the headland, and as we walked down to the boatyard and port, the heavens opened. Dodged into the nearest taverna for a glass of wine. They took credit cards but the man seemed to have no idea how to work the machine 😬He gave up in the end and sent us on our way. We looked for an atm but nothing around…I feel really bad about it.

The scenery is pretty stunning around here – you can see across to the mainland and Evvia plus Skiathos is just around the corner.

Apparently there was a huge wildfire across the southern peninsula in 2007 that damaged great swathes of land. After seeing the amount of fires being set today, I’m not so sure the cause was ‘wild’. Farmers are trimming their olive trees and burning the wood they’ve cut off. One chap was just doing it at the side of the road with his hose pipe at the ready!

Down in the jumbled up boatyard, boats are stacked three deep and one even appeared to be leaning on an electrical transformer!

Twisted fire starters 😂 Karl!
