Novi Vinodolski

A touch of user error this morning when we tried to get out of the motorhome park. The barrier thing looked simple enough – just insert ticket with bar code, then pay. I tried putting the ticket in several times and nothing happened. Guy got on the phone to the people in charge just as I noticed that the ticket said ‘Timmelsjoch Pass’ on it – wrong ticket! 🙄Must throw all the bits of paper out that are floating around the dashboard!

Lovely scenic coastal road once we got into Croatia this morning. We pulled into a town just above Senj around lunchtime and Guy suddenly recognised the place, better still, he remembered where the carpark was!

Having melted in the van whilst cooking courgette omlette, we decided to have coffee out on the harbour. Novi Vinodolski was a busy little place but it was the wrong time of day to be exploring,

Got on the motorway for a while after lunch as Guy was worried about the Sunday lunchtime drinkers on the coast road, having had a near miss a couple of years ago. He needn’t have worried as they were all on the motorway!

Reached Zadar and parked on the quayside without any problems. Walked through the lovely old town with its pristine streets then out to the sea to hear the sea organ. Timed it right as it was threatening a storm, causing the water to be choppy, which in turn makes it more musical.

Suddenly we saw a plane land in the sea, followed by another and realised they were scooping up water to put out a big wildfire on the hillside. Amazing to watch and we think they achieved their objective as the black smoke turned white.

Heading south, no parking spots at all this time of year. The sea edge is full of little auto camps, but they want €50 per night. Got a bargain in the end €41, but right on the edge of the sea. Lovely.

In to Croatia – Zadar 18/8/24
