Mmm….becoming a bit disillusioned with this bit of coast – we’re hoping it’s going to get better, but we are, of course, totally spoilt! 🤣 It either seems to be completely barren, other than miles of poly tunnels or completely over developed to the point where there’s nothing natural left. Drove up to just below Aquilas in search of the Cuatro Calas – some coves I’d read about. They were quite beautiful with interesting rocks and caves around them, but what shocked us the most was the thirty odd motorhomes all parked up. They seem to hunt in packs along this coast, and we feel bad joining in, as they’re often parked where there is a sign up saying ‘no motorhomes’. It’s like they see strength in numbers and chance their luck until the police move them on. The Italian couple next to us were keen to tell us about their adventures – they’d even been to Iran in their van. After about a hundred photographs we had to make our excuses and escaped for a walk over the headland. After lunch, we stopped at a service station where every man and his dog was filling up and emptying. The man currently holding the key to the chemical waste disposal area gave the key to Guy, then promptly snatched it back off him once he realised we hadn’t yet paid the €2 fee. It was quite funny at the time…. Anyway, we followed the coast round, looking for a place called Amarilla but had to abandon the idea once the road turned into dirt track on a hairpin bend on a headland. Back on the motorway to Mazarron where our idea for parking turned out to be once again rammed with other motorhomes. Driven a bit further on after reading that the locals were getting fed up with so many coming in at once. Parked out of the way now, Rufus has had a walk on the beach and Guy has concocted a vegetarian stew for dinner. I have asked to see the dessert menu but apparently everything is off other than the cheese selection 🙄!
