So no, it’s not Wednesday, it is Thursday after all that we need to be in Valencia. Never let the driver loose with the admin! 🙄🤣
Given that we had a bit more time, we went for a walk along the beach path which went for miles. It was warm and sunny – lovely.

I wanted to go back to Cartagena as we liked walking around all the naval stuff there. Didn’t want to park near the port though as there were some dodgy characters around last time.
Needed a proper food shop too and the inland Lidl only had covered parking, so against our better judgment, we ended up down at the port. Bad idea. Barriered access to Lidl – take a ticket, get it validated at the till, then it lets you out. Trouble was, we wanted to go straight back out as we were immediately accosted by a man begging for money. We get used to this happening occasionally, but this one was quite intimidating and just stood waiting for us to open the door – even after we’d already said no. In the end I stayed in the van with the doors locked, the man moved on and Guy went in the shop, bought bread and got the ticket validated. So it was goodbye Cartagena – we did want to visit but not anymore.
Still had the food shopping to do, so had to stop again further up the coast. Lunch in Lidl car park. 🤣
Passing Torrevieja on the motorway, we suddenly remembered reading about a pink lake and then we saw it ..well, it had a kind of pinky/purple tinge to it. Snap decision, turned off the motorway thinking it was five minutes away and then got caught up in some scruffy urbanisation for about an hour. Worst of all, it didn’t even look remotely pink when we reached it!

Back on the road. Past Alicante, then Benidorm and on to Denia, where after much faffing about, we’ve managed to park up facing the beach again. 👍
