A bit more driving today, exploring the area south of Córdoba. The weather is, unfortunately, still quite grim and cold.
We decided to head for Iznájar first as it looked quite interesting. Stopped off in Lucena for lunch, but decided against walking around as there didn’t appear to be much of interest there.
Iznájar, however, was brilliant. Situated on a huge rocky outcrop, it overlooks the largest reservoir in Andalusia, but possibly not today. Although the current weather is helping to fill it up! We walked up one of the steepest streets ever to get to the top – crawling seemed like a good option, although the photo doesn’t do justice to how steep it was.

The castle at the top was closed, along with everything else, but the reward was the view – so many olive trees covering the landscape. Blue plant pots seem to be the order of the day in the old town all adding to its charm.

We decided to move on rather than take up space in the tiny car park. Guy suggested Montefrío but we looked at a quick photo of Priego and thought it might be worth a look. Both towns were about the same distance away but of course, Priego turned out to be up an almost single track mountain road with 4000 bends in it. Then, upon our arrival in said town, the satnav coordinates are wrong, so we end up going round in circles. Feel like we’ve seen half the town already and now we’re not even sure why we’re here! 🤣
We’ll walk in tomorrow and have a look. In the meantime, two local lads have turned up on mini mopeds…it was ok for a while but now feels a bit like the dentists drill. 😬
