Gmünd

We walked all the way around Lake Bled this morning for a bit of exercise. Guy, unfortunately made the wrong lens choice, carting the big zoom thing all the way round but it could only fit in the island on the lake, not it’s surroundings. 🙄

He made up for it with a couple of shots of the Triglav on the way out of Slovenia though.

We set off towards Austria after lunch, carefully making sure we had the ‘no tolls’ option on googlemaps. The vignette system is quite complicated here – seems you have to know at least 18 days ahead which route you’ll be taking. No good for us – we don’t know what day it is, never mind where we’ll be tomorrow. 😬

Anyway, we took a wrong turn and ended up on a flipping motorway for ten miles so we’ll probably get one of ‘those’ letters before Christmas!

Deciding to avoid a long tunnel across the border we went up and over the Wurzenpass – more than a bit steep on the other side. We’ve never seen a sign saying you must be in first gear before.

In Spittal an der Drau it must have been graduation day as the pavements were packed with people in their Sunday best and mortar boards. I never thought men actually wore lederhosen though!

After all that excitement, we landed in the beautiful town of Gmünd. What a colourful high street and better still, Kaffee und kuchen!

In to Austria 21/10/22
