Set off up the eastern side of Lake Garda this morning. We had forgotten how stunningly beautiful it is – every town is picture postcard perfect. Through Malcesine we looked out for the campsite where Guy stayed as a child, then the two of us before children, then later in 2008 we took Callum and Jordan. It’s still there! I think we may have stayed, but rain is forecast and we want to get to the Grossglockner pass before it comes. Carried on up to Riva del Garda and had a little wander round. Guy remarked that he thought the town had more to it and he was sure there was a castle. As we drove out on our route to Trento and Bolzano we saw a sign for Riva del Garda 2km further on. We weren’t where we thought we were! 🙄 Never mind, we’ll do that another time.
We stopped in Bolzano to go to Decathlon but still no luck with walking boots. More driving, until we got close to the Austrian border then we really struggled to find somewhere to stay. All the car parks seemed to have barriers or ‘no motorhome’ signs. Eventually, we found this one at the back of a sports centre. Had a walk round the lovely town. We are just behind the Dolomites so there’s a very dramatic backdrop to it. It feels freezing to me – bikini yesterday, now it’s fleece, coat and trousers! ❄️
