After much meandering again we are now just south of Rouen.
We woke up quite late to the sound of a hot air balloon taking off in the next field – not a noise you can identify easily when you’re not really with it!
Keeping away from the toll roads again, we made our way steadily north. Called at Cloyes-sur-le-Loir for lunch, mainly because we’d got it muddled up with Châteaudun!
It turned out to be a lovely place anyway, with a beautiful park by the river. Trees full of autumn colours, ducks, geese and herons everywhere – très tranquille!😊
We decided to stop at Châteaudun anyway, which was just twenty minutes or so up the road. Huge château there – really tall. From one side it looked like Colditz, but after walking up a few hundred steps, we could see it’s good side in all its glory. Felt sorry for the poor workmen up on scaffold at the top.
There were a few streets with really ancient houses on – not sure how some of them are still standing.
Carried on with the driving then. Just another 150 miles tomorrow then tunnel booked for Sunday morning. I’d better get the forms filled in!
