Basking in the harbour at Mallaig

Good sleep in the lay-by. Bit of rain this morning on and off. Guy went go get some more photos of the beach at Morar as we were parked close by.

Drove up to Mallaig, then couldn’t park and we were hours early for our ferry. Instructed to try the roadside further round the bay and we managed to pull in there. Walked into the town to find the post office. Loved the notice on the door ‘closed due to holiday from 10th to the 28th September’ …just in time. Not sure what the local folk will do with their urgent letters though 🤔.

Back to the van for soup…yes, I know, but it was cool and drizzly here 🙄. A bit of light entertainment then, when we saw some lovely seals in the harbour.

Eventually, we drove onto the ferry. Just a short crossing thankfully, as we could really feel the swell.

First impressions as we drove up the main coast road; a lot of heather but not much else here. We were half way up the island before we’d blinked. Called in a campsite ( washing needs doing again!) – booked up for the next week and a half – wow!

Managed to park at the Sligachan Hotel with permission from the owner. There’s an old bridge and some waterfalls here, but they’ve not had much rain recently so there’s not a lot coming down. Nice paths up into the mountains too. Think someone has come unstuck on one of them though, as the mountain rescue have been out in the helicopter.

Another weird small world thing; Guy got chatting to a couple, one of which was the friend of my old next door neighbour from about 35 years ago!
