Glad we didn’t follow our original plan and try to walk to the Fairy Pools from this mornings location at Sligachan. Would have been five and a half miles each way but somehow up and over the Cuillin mountain range. 😬 Instead we chose to drive around to Carbost and risk the single track road. There were a few pot holes but overall it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as we expected.

Managed to park in a small car park in the woods about half a mile before the main one. Defrosted some bread and made sandwiches to take with us.

The Fairy Pools are a beautiful set of waterfalls which you can follow right up to the base of the mountains. Crystal clear water draws people in to swim even though the water is notoriously cold. It was rocky path all the way up with a few stepping stones and a bit of mud.

Had lunch with the midges about three quarters of the way up, then carried on to the bottom of the mountains. After a few spots of rain, the sun came out properly on the way back just as we started the steep hill back up to the car park.

Our spot for the night had suddenly become less than perfect when we realised the woods were used as a toilet and four lads had parked next door with roof tent, firewood and lots of beer 😂The icing on the cake was the advancing midge swarm. We moved.

Four miles down the road we found Glenbrittle Camping by Loch Brittle…and they had space! Two loads of washing done on the cheap and risking massive shrinkage as everything’s gone in the tumble drier. Looking forward to squeezing the toes into baby socks in the morning, but at least they’re clean!

**stop press** Guy has just been out to take a night sky photo and pick up the last of the tumble drying. There’s an extra pair of pants in there and they’re not mine 😬😮
