Set off on foot for the island this morning. There has been a new bridge built across and we can’t really remember how it was before. Once through the gate, a lovely cobbled street circles up to the abbey with a few shops and restaurants open but not anywhere near enough trade to keep them busy.

Decided to go into the abbey this time – it’s huge! We were entertained at midday by one of the monks coming to ring the bells. Looked like hard work, and when both feet lifted off the ground at one point we got seriously worried. 😬

There’s also a waterwheel type thing that we think used man power to haul stuff up from sea level. It’s obvs not all prayers and bell ringing!

It started to rain on the way back down so dodged into a cafe and got ripped off €14 for 2 coffees & 2 biscuits 🙄Then, as we started to walk back across the bridge, a flipping ten minute hurricane came from nowhere – we got instantly drenched and it was so windy you couldn’t stand up straight. Fortunately, we managed to get on one of the free shuttle buses back to the car park.
Mid afternoon, we drove on a bit further to Cancale, a beautiful little harbour village just across the peninsula. It’s famed for its oysters and everything seems to revolve around them. We bought a plate of six and I managed one …I’m still not sure. Guy devoured the other five at warp speed. The sun was shining and it was like a totally different day from two hours earlier.

Drove up to the Pointe du Grouin headland then for a windy walk with great views. Back in the van, we finally turned south to Dinan. On a free aire for the night but not happy to discover we’ve left our water tap fitting on a campsite in London! 🙄🙄🙄

You were right on our doorstep. We won’t be there until 3 March
Really!?? What a beautiful place to have a house. We keep missing each other 🙄Think we’ll be turning south tomorrow heading to Guys parents x
Was the Aire under the Viaduct? We’ve seen it many times, and thought what a fab spot. Pointe de Groiun is our favourite place for moules à la creme. Shame we are not there yet.
No, it was kind of south of the city near a chateau and a tennis centre. Good quiet night and free services!
Interesting. We’ll have a look for it next time we’re over.
Great pics and commentary. It’s a drag about the tap fitting…so easy to leave these things behind. We’re very envious of you being on your travels again. ENJOY!
Thanks Catherine. Doesn’t take long to get back in the swing of it. When are you and Steve planning to have another trip? X
