Back to Calais first thing in the hope of finding a shop that sells the exact same shower tap as ours. The first place we tried had a very similar thing with a very helpful chap that even lent Guy his adjustable spanner. It’s not perfect and we are £96 lighter but everyone needs a shower!

We made our way towards Normandy, heading towards Fécamp and Étretat. It was taking forever and hunger got the better of us, so we stopped at the lovely town on Montreuil-sur-Mer which hasn’t been ‘sur mer’ since the sixteenth century. Dodging the rain, we had a nice walk around the cobbled streets.

Back on the road, the weather changed to sudden ice. You could almost have drawn a line where it started – so weird. Two cars were abandoned at funny angles and the traffic slowed right down. A snow plough appeared and it was like we were suddenly in another country. You could hear the ice under the wheels – thank God for our grippy tyres!

After that, there’s been a mixture of sleet, rain and heavy snow. We parked on a cliff up above Fécamp late afternoon, then decided we were too exposed, so carried onto Étretat.

On a motorhome aire for €11. The town looks really nice; we’ll explore tomorrow – it’s dark now!
