Got up early today for a change and Guy was on a mission to get up to Palafrugell for this evening. It looked like four hours driving, which in a motorhome is usually more like six.
As we were flying along a beautifully smooth A road towards Tarragona, we were questioning our usual excuse for England’s awful road surfaces. In the past, we’d come to the conclusion that our roads are bad because we have bad weather. But…this road had snow poles on it and snow forecast for Tuesday, so I’ve no idea now!
Towards the coast, there was a casual mention of the Volta de Catalunya bike race departing from a town near here. Before I knew what was happening, we’d parked up in some random place, bolted down our lunch and were off to see the ‘Grand Depart’!

Unfortunately, the photographer was so excited to see Podgacar et al, that he’s managed to chop the heads off most of the cyclists. I thought he was well past that stage in his hobbyism.
After the event, we walked to the beach to stretch our legs. It was really warm and sunny, but the driver was keen to press on north.

Got stuck in a big traffic jam around the back of Barcelona, so it was nearly 5pm by the time we reached Palafrugell. Not wanting to spend €26 to arrive late at a campsite, we drove to the only carpark we knew of that seemed to tolerate the odd motorhome. Not a chance – a new height barrier has been put up!
Campsite it is then. A brand new one in fact and we’re quite pleased with it so far, other than having to show cards to the men on the gate when there’s only about three vans in here!
Out on the town tonight but had to do a trip back for my coat. It’s defo cooler up north.

Oh! There’s a Bike Race 🙄22/3/24
