We decided to do a bit of motorway today in order to get to the Camargue region without going miles inland first. Both breathed a sigh of relief at the €14 charge ..we actually thought it would be more after the last one!
Came off at Montpellier airport and then hit our first traffic jam about ten minutes away from our destination. It was getting hotter and hotter with a three minute wait for the contra-flow and about three cars getting through at a time! It turned out to be repairs on a bridge and with the width being only just over two metres, it was a very tight squeeze for us!
We’ve been to this ornithological park before, but I think it was probably a different time of year. We tried to wait for the heat to die down a bit as there’s not a lot of shade inside, but still at 3pm it was boiling.
Loads of flamingos again, plus herons and egrets but didn’t see much else apart from the lovely wild horses. Guy managed to get a photo of a heron wolfing down a fish which was quite funny to watch. It was about four miles around the whole of the park …we’re not sure why it feels more like fourteen! 🤣🙄
Drove down to the sea at Saintes Maries de La Mer (the other one!) and had to find a cash machine as the only parking is €16, cash paid at 8am in the morning. Whaaaat? 8am!!? 😬 Even worse, had to pay the €6 charge to get the money out!
Drove back up to the parking and there must be a hundred motorhomes here – it’s incredible! Joined on to one of the lines of white boxes but couldn’t care less tonight – too tired to think about it.
