It hammered down with rain in the night – had to batten down all the hatches. Still miserable this morning, so we changed our plans from a long walk to Palamós to getting the van out for a drive to Lidl and beyond!
We actually managed to squeeze into the car park, then got our trolley onto the special escalator that takes you up to the shop on the upper level. Big queues at the checkout so we decided to give the self checkouts a whirl seeing as they were all empty. We were so chuffed with ourselves looking up all the fruit and vegetables – good Spanish lesson 🤣
Fridge repacked, we decided to head for the old medieval town of Pals as we haven’t been for a few years. Parked in a muddy field, had lunch, then wandered in.

This beautiful, fortified hill top village was apparently restored by a local doctor after the Civil War. From the higher points you can see right out to the Medes Isles and on a clear day, all the way across to the Canigou in the Pyrenees. I think we’ve been here a couple of times before at least, but today is the first time we’ve seen it full of people.

After we’d covered all the little cobbled streets and alleyways, we returned to the van and jumped back into the 21st century with a visit to Decathlon over in the very built up resort of Platja d’Aro.
I think the neighbours were wondering if we’d gone home and left our table, chairs, mat and washing line behind! Not many of them move during the day so I think we’re probably good for a bit of campsite entertainment!
