That was a very quiet night in the lay-by …no cars on the road, just the sound of birds tweeting. We were on a bit of a tilt though, which couldn’t be rectified with the ramps. Set off inland to the Ponte Dei Saraceni, a beautiful medieval bridge in the middle of nowhere. Took us a long time to get there, as once we were off the Giro route, we were back to bone shaking pot holes. It was quite warm when we had a walk around . Rufus had to be picked up 🙄 and lifted onto the start of the bridge as there weren’t any proper steps. Wound our way back to the coast through some scenic countryside marred as usual by heaps and heaps of rubbish. Don’t know if the bin men are on strike but there seems to be loads of it in the towns too. Called at Lidl…again!!, then made our way to Siracusa on the motorway. We needed services desperately. Managed to drain the water but we needed fresh. Got to the camper stop closest to the centre but it was a right filthy hole. We filled up with water there – which I’m always sceptical about, but we do use our own hose and connector, so I’m assured it’s ok by the man that knows all things. Drove to the port and parked up for free with a great view. Rufus isn’t impressed …too many people, scooters, cars and dogs.
