Porto to Viana do Castelo (The night of the great escape!)

Well, what started out as a nice quiet night by the River Douro turned suddenly eventful about 1:30am. I was awake and thought I heard a knock at the door. I woke Guy up and there was another knock. He looked through a gap in the blind and there was a chap stood there. Said he was sorry to disturb us at this hour but had burnt his hands on the car radiator and could we take him to hospital or give him some money for a taxi. He didn’t seem particularly distressed and looked more like the local druggy. Guy told him we couldn’t help …this is very unusual for my husband who usually provides first aid at the drop of a hat 🤕The man didn’t go away – just stood staring at the motorhome door – at which point we decided he was probably providing a distraction for his mates trying to break in the other side. Imagination runs riot in the small hours! So, we pulled the blinds down and drove off in our pyjamas. Easy get away, but an hour and a half later we were still looking for somewhere to park. Flat battery on one phone and maps not working properly on the other. Kept getting stuck down one way streets …had to get out in me jamas and slippers at one point to watch the back end. All in all we did a very thorough tour of Portos wine lodges (without going in any) in the middle of the night. Our ferocious guard dog 🐕 slept through the whole occurrence and wondered why we got up so late this morning.🙄 Having had enough of Porto we drove up the coast to Viana do Castelo. Really nice place lots of narrow old streets and little shops. Really cold feeling today though -had to have a brandy with our coffee this afternoon! Called at the Post Office to send a couple of cards to America ..it was a really challenging ticket system at the counters. Especially so when the only Portuguese words you know are stamp and thank you. It worked a bit like Argos but you had to have pressed the right button for the right type of transaction to get the right ticket for the right counter. Don’t usually drink brandy but today it somehow seemed appropriate.😂💤💤
