One of Guy’s ‘Boys Own Adventures’ today on the southern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
After a lovely peaceful night listening to the waves, we made our way inland to avoid the miles of plastic greenhouses and concrete jungle that is the coast around here. The area that the greenhouses cover seems to increase ten fold every time we come to Spain. Even on Google Maps whole regions are just white where there’s nothing else. No wildlife. Nothing!
After a stop to drain and fill up with water we arrived in the lovely white town of Laujar de Andarax.
Had lunch then set off on a very interesting trail into the hills where you walk along irrigation channels through tunnels and other exciting challenges.

Ten minutes in, it was a definite ‘No Gracias’ from me! Walking is one thing but climbing around rocks with a drop on one side is not my cup of tea – I have tried…I’m just no good at it!
We decided to do some of the route in reverse. There was some beautiful scenery around but I was more concerned about foot placement. The bit where we walked in the mini canal was ok for a while until we came across a few bulls. Well, one of them was an XL Bully I reckon.
We thankfully found a forest track to walk back on – I was delighted as we were running out of daylight hours. More bulls, but luckily a farmer was with them.

Back at the van, we decided to park in a big lay-by. A glass of wine each, Guy’s has disappeared in two gulps ( they are Sherry glasses to be fair). We then decide the lay-by smells of wee, so decide to park in the village…except there’s nowhere to put my full glass, so I end up holding it. We then proceed to almost get stuck down every narrow street and at one point the glass has to be placed between my feet as the Gardia Civil are on the roundabout! Cheers!🥂
Managed to park, had dinner, start to wash up – no hot water. We’ve only gone and run out of flipping gas! Last time we filled up the gauge must have been faulty as we remember thinking it hadn’t taken much. So, finished the day with a 40 minute drive back towards the coast to the only LPG station for miles around! At least we can now have coffee in the morning!
