Can’t believe we are this far north already…think we will be home sooner than expected. Doesn’t seem to be much point looking around places when the weather is grim and they’re not at their best. It just means we eat more cake and drink more wine 🙄🍷🍰! It’s been a bit of a driving day, mainly because the route kept us off motorways (at least we avoided peages), so probably took longer than it should have. Everywhere is closed – France is en fete for All Saints’ day. We drove off the route into a little town called Saint-Nicolas-de-Port for lunch. It had a monstrous basilica in the middle of it …like finding York Minster in the middle of Eastwood! Carried on trundling up the A roads till we reached Chalons-en-Champagne and found good parking in this village (Saint-Martin) on the outskirts. Took Rufus a walk along the canal and then as we came back into the village we got talking to two old ladies. Everything here is immaculate and new looking and we said as much to them. Don’t think our rusty school French was working very well today because as we understood it, the father at the Catholic Church sold his robe to pay for it all! 🤣🤣🤣
