First stop this morning was to fill up with diesel before we hit the motorway. Had a few extra miles to cover as we now have to get over to Auch for Friday morning.
Guy has ordered a new camera (essential luxury) which was to be delivered to his parents house last Monday. Fed Ex have made three delivery attempts but failed to find it. All reviews say this delivery office never actually delivers! So, we’re going to attempt to collect it!
Motorway most of the way, allowing Guy to give his rib cage a rest. The first peage was about €30 – the cost is scary but the alternative is a thousand roundabouts getting nowhere fast.
We stopped off at Saintes for lunch and parked in shade by the river.
It was hot, hot, hot 🥵 when we walked into town.
The first place we came across was the Basilica Saint Eutrope de Saintes. It’s crypt was a stunning but eerie place so we were surprised to see some ladies carrying roll mats in to set up a yoga session!

Walked on to see the amphitheatre but it was all fenced off and looked like it was still being built! 😉😂

Undeterred, we walked up a hill, then down a load of steps and came out by the massive Cathédrale de St-Pierre. Quite plain inside, but lovely and cool. A quick walk through the town then back on the road.

After Bordeaux, we turned sort of south east on the A62 towards Agen. A sort of no man’s land as we see it – there’s not much around. Surprising then, when we reach a free motorhome aire on the edge of a village and it’s full! Had to drive on a bit further and pay to park at the Lac de Clarens – a sort of outdoor leisure centre complete with beach and free mosquitoes 🦟😬.
Lovely setting though and very peaceful.
