Farmers protest blocks the road in Serbia

That was a very noisy night! Hadn’t realised it was a Croatian bank holiday today – Assumption Day…when you assume that the whole world will be out by the riverside partying all night! Then outdoor church service starting at 6am complete with bells. 😂

What to say about Serbia? In and out in a day – we daren’t stop! All the way to Belgrade there was absolutely nothing to see other than fields of maize and dead sunflowers. Then when we hit Belgrade and inadvertently did a tour of the city, we were so shocked at the row upon row of almost derelict tower blocks – such a depressing place.

When we finally got onto the right road out, we came to a sudden halt on a bridge. The farmers were all demonstrating against the government – many issues including the price of fuel. So, they’d all bought their tractors out and blocked the road. An hour later, we finally got moving and we were directed down a side street that was like something from a film set.

A few miles up the road and it happened all over again. This time I made coffee just as the queue started moving – great balancing act! People were jumping the queues left right and centre; it was complete chaos.

If we had used our phones it would’ve cost £4 per minute to make a call! Makes us realise how much we take for granted.

Another very long wait at the border with Romania, then through to another world. Feels nicer. We’re at a new camper stop; basically the back garden of a beautiful old house that belongs to a very helpful Austrian couple. They can’t believe we’ve driven through Serbia … much corruption I think.

It’s very warm and muggy and now dark. Just lost another hour – now two hours ahead of the uk. Must be bedtime 🥱
