Mid afternoon Guy had suggested I title this ‘Tarifa the sh*t hole’…I think that’s a bit unfair, and later on he did admit that the old town area was quite nice. It has to be said though, that it is all a bit scruffy and needs a little rejuvenation. The surfer dudes seem to quite like it – we even saw one in the process of graffitiing his own van! (Is that even a verb?)

We set off this morning with the intention of trying a different supermarket for the shopping, but by the time we reached Tarifa – twenty minutes, we plumped for Lidl again as we know where everything is in there! 🙄

Paid to park in a secure area with services – at £6ish for the night we considered it a bargain. Rain was forecast and this was backed up by my hair doing a Medusa impression five minutes after stepping outside.

Tarifa is quite an interesting place really, as it’s where the Med meets the Atlantic – see magic photo where wife runs around the back of husband with phone camera on panoramic 😂

Multitasking

Also, there are brilliant views of Africa and Guy’s zoom lens bought it almost within touching distance.

The port is closed at the minute though, other than for freight, otherwise we would have been tempted. We walked out to the fort on the headland, where for a short while, we were the southernmost people in Europe. The fort itself was also closed off though. Undeterred, we headed for the Punta del Santo, along another causeway, but this just turned out to be the fishermen’s unofficial toilet.

Back in the old town, we did find a few nice little streets and on a sunnier day it must be great to sit on the beach and watch the kite surfing. It was back to the van early for us though as the heavens opened and we just missed getting proper soaked.
