We should know by now that walking up sand dunes is flipping hard work, but why does it always look as if it’ll be easy. Though not quite the Dune du Pilat, it wasn’t far off. It was a lovely day, but very windy again, blowing against us all the way up.

I tried doing the ‘sand walk’ as demonstrated in the film, Dune, just in case there were any huge sand worms around. As we got over the top, it was suddenly baking hot out of the breeze. Unfortunately, it was all just a steep sided dead end – nowhere to go, but then I spotted a piece of cardboard and thought I’d go for a sand slide. Sadly, it didn’t work ☹️I either need a metal tray or to lose a stone …erm, I think it might be the latter. 😬

Back to the van for lunch, then this afternoon we’ve explored the nearby preserved ruins of Baelo Claudia – an ancient Roman city.

Set in a striking position overlooking the sea, you could really get a sense of what it all must have looked like. Streets, shops, temple, amphitheatre, fish processing plant, it had it all. They were so advanced 2000 years ago – I’m not sure what went wrong in between.

There was a huge visitor centre and even a chap on hand who asked if we had any questions – trouble was, we didn’t understand the question! “Pregunta” – we know that one, perhaps if he’d said it more slowly? 🙄😂 Anyway, all this was for the princely sum of €0.00 – amazing!
