Another overcast day so we decided to catch the bus to Palamós, seeing as we haven’t been for a while. Not that simple – it was actually two buses. One inland to Palafrugell, then a fifteen minute wait for the bus to Palamós. Thankfully, they now take cards so we didn’t have to get any cash out.

Once we got down to the harbour and sea front, it became apparent that the whole area is now a building site. It looks like they’re pedestrianising it all, but seems a strange time of year to be doing it ..it doesn’t look like they’ve just started it, we think it’s been going on all summer.

We turned up into the old town instead which is a lovely, bustling area, full of local people with their shopping trolleys. Guy went for a haircut and I had a little wander around the shops. Had lunch in a little bakery type place where I had a minor panic when I asked where the toilets were. They gave me a key on a string and some very fast instructions in Spanish or was it Catalan? Luckily I picked up Izquierda, which I knew was left, as Guy had learnt it when out cycling. Out in the corridor, I stuck my key in all the doors on the left until it finally turned – in fact, it had to be turned twice. Success! Thank God I wasn’t in a hurry!
Couldn’t decide what to do next as the envisaged Sangria and crisps on the seafront didn’t seem right without the sunshine.
Despite his foot issues, Guy decided we should walk back as he had different trainers on and all seemed ok. It is a fabulous walk around the coast, passing first, the huge La Fosca beach and then the lovely nineteenth century fishing huts that make up Cala S’Alguer. Shortly after there’s another big beach at Castell which seems to be miles from anywhere.

The path then turns into pine forest, with tracks criss-crossing left, right and centre. We’ve been lost in this area so many times over the years and today was no exception. It would be ok if wasn’t for the fact that it climbs up and down constantly. It seemed ages before we reached the edge of the botanical gardens at Cap Roig…nearly there!
Ten miles wasn’t really in the plan today but luckily Guy’s foot has been ok. Might have been shorter if we’d managed to stay on the right route!
Let’s hope Ray isn’t entertaining tonight ‘cos we’re proper tired now! 🤣😴
