Well this place is definitely something to see! The monasteries of the Metéora perched on top of huge, dome shaped rocks and cliff faces. Despite being overrun with people and coaches even at this time of year, it still has an ‘other worldly’ feel about it.
Very cold start this morning – 6 degrees, what a shock to the system. At least we know the heating still works! Without realising, we drove along the Katara Pass past some very high peaks, wondering why we kept seeing snow plough stations. 🙄

Managed to fill up with water in Kastráki, the little village on the way in to the pinnacles.

Met with these huge pointy rocks with monasteries on top, we were unsure how to go about seeing it all, so we made our way to a viewpoint first to get our bearings.
Good move, as it turned out, as we were just around the corner from Ayias Triádhos or Holy Trinity, which happens to be the one used in the Bond film ‘For your eyes only’! We set off down a ramp and then up 150 steps on the other side of the ravine. Armed with skirt and scarf, I was fully ready for ‘men do as you please, women cover everything’!

Guy, meanwhile, was busy tormenting our neighbour Matt by text, as he is Podder Lane’s 007 aficionado. Needless to say, he worked out where we were almost straight away!

As always with these places, the climb up and the view is always better than the building itself, although most of them are undoubtedly beautiful.
We managed to drive and park up near most of them for photos. Most closed around 4pm but a walk up the steps was still with it. There was a cableway to a couple of them but only for transportation of goods or dignitaries – mere mortals must climb the stairs!

After dinner in the van, we drove back up to the viewpoint to watch the sun set along with scores of others. All in all, a pretty astounding view resulting in more photos than we know what to do with – sorry folks! 😂
