Set off up this mountainous finger of land this morning with the aim of getting to Camp Lavanda near Orebić, to do some washing. After a wrong turn – satnav doesn’t recognise any of these new roads, we very nearly ended up coming back over the toll bridge to the mainland! 🙄
Finally found a chance to turn around at the last minute and we got back on track up the very scenic road that switches from one side of the peninsula to the other. It’s all blues and greens – very beautiful.

There’s a war memorial that stands out for miles on the way up – a kind of brutalist monument thing dedicated to 395 fallen Yugoslav partisans and civilians killed in concentration camps. We always stop and have a look at it whenever we pass this way, but this year it looks like it’s been cleaned up a bit. It definitely used to have bullet holes in it and something written about Tito, but that’s now gone.

Camp Lavanda is terraced so everyone has a sea view, it still seems new even though we first came in 2018. Very clean, has a beach and overlooks several little islands, but the best thing about it, in our opinion, is that at night you can hear the golden jackals howling – in fact, they’ve just done it at 8:30pm. Such an amazing sound, although I think the chance of actually seeing them is close to nil.
Got some washing done – the machines used to be free here but now 7 euros a go! Got two loads in one though as it’s a giant industrial Rolls Royce of a machine. Out on the line – it was baking hot at lunchtime.
Came back from a swim at 4pm and all in shade 🙄. Not dry. Had to bring it all in and will have to put it back out tomorrow.
Guy has been on comet watch. Well, at least until our neighbour put up a string of gaudy blue and red led lights. 🤣 He did manage to get a shot of it by going down to the beach, but it’s already moved a few million miles further away since yesterday!
