As we were totally unable to walk after the Pic du Midi adventure, it was a good job that we had a long driving day on Monday.
The weather was atrocious as we did our cross country route and the roads were quite tedious. We were surprised at how dead some of the towns and villages were – when do the little shops make a living if they close on Monday?
Once we reached Quillan, we were back to an area that we know quite well. Had forgotten about the gorge though …not very motorhome friendly! 🤣Many overhanging rocks causing sharp intakes of breath.

Through Maury which used to be our favourite wine place, then on to Latour-de-France.
Booked into the campsite which is down by the River Agly at the bottom of the town. Really nice place for £16 per night.
Had to make our legs work then and walk up to Karen (Guy’s sister) and Johns house – about 20 minutes. They have extended the house into the next door bit which was derelict, so of course, we went to the wrong door and completely ruined our tour of the new bit! Lots of food and gallons of wine later, we stumbled back down the road in the dark to the campsite – Thank God the pedestrian gate was open!

That night, for some ridiculous reason, I didn’t sleep at all – not even a wink. So I opted out of a trip to the seaside ( Le Racou to Collioure) with moules frites for lunch. The weather had changed and was much more like the south of France, so they all came back looking super healthy. I had a whole pot of coffee to sort myself out and we continued eating and drinking – then, quite bizarrely, Guy won at cards!

This morning we dragged ourselves off the campsite just in the nick of time before we were charged another day! The two and a half hour drive to Calella de Palafrugell in Spain took us all day:
One stop at Carrefour for just enough diesel to get us to the border plus a trip into the shop for French beans.
Next stop Lidl in Figueres for a big shop and lunch in the car park.
Then, stop for a proper diesel fill up.
Lastly, somewhere else for LPG!
Arrived at the campsite about 4:30pm and it was rammed! We had considered booking but I didn’t want to lose money if we changed our minds. Two places left! We couldn’t believe it. I think there are more people here than we’ve ever seen…the secret is out! It’s more like the beginning of August than the start of September.
