I think we were up and out before most of the Turks this morning. It was like we walked through the city streets just as everything was waking up. Not particularly early, but I do believe they all have important car meets on a Saturday night to see who can belt out the loudest music 🤣

Had a walk around the Alǎeddin Park – I think what makes Konya feel so nice is that it has green spaces.
Started our journey towards Cappadocia late morning. What a drive! After many miles of newly built industrial units on the outskirts of the city, we entered a land of nothingness as far as the eye could see for a good few hours.

Arriving in to the Cappadocia area, we couldn’t really see what all the fuss was about, until we parked up in Uçhisar and saw the 60 metre high rock castle.

As we walked up to it, all became clear. We were completely surrounded by the most incredible rock formations, all full of windows, tunnels and caves. It’s quite stunning.

Volcanic eruptions millions of years ago provided the area’s raw material, known as tuff. This soft stone has been gradually eroded and sometimes mixed with other rocks to give the weird and wonderful formations we’ve seen today.
The walk up to the top of the castle was great, but we wished we’d left it until sunset. Can’t believe that it used to house an entire village.
