Or ..Tour of the Algarve! Yes, you know who found a must see bike race and the best spot would be up in the hills towards Monchique.
Much scuffling around this morning to ensure that we got there with first dibs on the best spot.
There didn’t seem to be any other spectators around for ages, but then gradually, the roadside filled up. So many police cars, motorbikes, ambulances and vehicles carrying spare bikes, but disappointingly, no floats playing music and dishing out goodies 🤣
It was all over within a couple of minutes, but we did at least have the vantage point of seeing them approach the hill in the distance and then they came right past us.

Already quite close to the motorway, we made our way to Faro where we’ve parked at the back of the airport before and it’s also right next to a bird reserve.
As we drove in, Guy spotted a group of Spoonbills and couldn’t wait to get out with the camera. Sadly the huge empty carpark now has signs up saying ‘No Motorhomes’. Seems so silly when they could easily charge €10 and make some money. There would still be room for hundred of cars.
We chanced it for five minutes and returned to the Spoonbill location …unfortunately they had re-located !🙄😬
Tried several other places for parking in Faro but they were either full or didn’t feel safe. Had to carry on to Olhão where we’ve parked by the little port. Had a walk in to stretch our legs and find the nearest tapas bar – Aperol and Sagres required.

Back at the van, just as it’s getting dark, every motorbike in Portugal has arrived to do a few circuits of the town with much popping of exhausts. Saturday night and all that ..what else is there to do?
