Well, I got up and ran into the lounge this morning to see if ‘He’d been’…..Santa, that is,..it was definitely cold enough!
We set off north through a world of lakes and forests. I got to do some driving – no PDP today. The roads were long, straight and almost empty at times. No overtaking required – bonus! Just a slight issue coming down the gears as we drove into a fuel station …a bit of double de-clutching – no problem! 😂😂😂
The service station was full of old German bells for no apparent reason – kept Guy entertained for ten minutes while I had coffee!
Got to Oulu much sooner than expected …we thought it would be Tuesday or Wednesday before we got this far. It was a bit grey and rainy when we arrived. Had a look at the old huts by the harbour and a walk over the bridges. Back at the van, we discovered we could cross two islands on foot, to a beach overlooking the bay of Bothnia, so off we set again. Long walk, but the sun came out. Once we got there, we found better parking overlooking the sea, so after walking back, we bought the motorhome here and now have a grandstand view.
I’ve decided the Finns are very hardy creatures – they go in the sea and behave like it’s the middle of summer…feels like a cool spring day to me. Sunset at 11:35pm tonight and rises at 3:13!
