We moved a little further down the coast today, starting just below Barbate, where we’d read that there was a wildlife/fish farm area that had flamingoes in it.
It wasn’t the nicest of places to be honest as there was lots of rubbish around. It was almost as if the land used to be a rubbish dump and had been repurposed.

Guy asked the farmers working close by if it was ok to park and they were quite friendly, so we set off across what looked like salt flats in search of the pink birds. There were loads, but you couldn’t get really close because of the fence. As Guy was busy setting the camera up, huge fish were jumping out of the lake behind us. There were loads of different birds but as usual, we didn’t have much of a clue as to what they were.

Walking back, we passed a few loose cows – well, we were praying that they were cows, not bulls, and then quite a lot of horses just wandering around – until one of the farmers came to round them up on his quad bike!

Had to drive inland a bit then, to find free services to fill up and drain the water. Back out to coast after lunch, we’re now at Playa de Bolonia. Some debate about parking overnight as we have a lovely spot facing the sea. Apparently the Gardia Civil turn a blind eye to campers out of season but once the holiday season kicks in, everyone gets fined. There are a lot of vans here, mainly surfers, so far, so good.

Had a walk across the vast beach but still a bit chilly and windy to sit down. Lots of big dunes on either side, probably have a march up there tomorrow.
