Quiet night in Elne. The plan was to stay here for a couple of days, but once we’d had a walk around the town this morning, we decided it wasn’t that great – certainly didn’t warrant hanging around for two days. I don’t think our impression of it was helped by the fact that we were frozen; walking round like a pair of ever hopeful idiots in shorts! After lunch, we made our way towards Thuir – home of the giant wine barrel which we saw back in 1989 I think! Nice town, with some good views of the mountains covered in snow.
On then to Ille-sur-Tet, then Rivesaltes, finally ending up here in Fitou. Doesn’t seem to be a lot here but found a lovely carpark for the night. Rufus dragged us up the road for a degustation of the local wine. (We do like Fitou)They are always so generous with their measures when giving you a taste. The kind lady invited us to tip the rest into her bucket once we’d tried each one – well, that was never going to happen. Came back down the hill faster than we went up …must’ve been the weight of the six bottles. 🍷
