Decided to book in for another night on this campsite as it’s in a lovely spot and £16 without electricity is a bit of a bargain in Wales.

Campsite at Newgale from the Coastal Path

The weather looked like it was going to clear up after lunch so we busied ourselves draining & filling with water etc. Then we decided to turn the van around to face the sea instead of looking at Swampy and his mates. Was just about to ask him advice on the dreadlocks ‘cos my hair isn’t far off in this weather, when he abruptly trundled away in his rusty truck – how rude!

Set off for five and a half mile walk along the coastal path to Solva – a little fishing village further up the bay. It was a very steep climb up and down nearly all the way. The heavens opened again, the mist rolled in and we got soaked! Firstly, just on one side, then right through – top to toe 🙄

Found a lovely cafe selling Welsh cakes of all varieties, and after three each plus tea & coffee, we started to feel human again. Had to wait a while for a seat as social distancing etc is still very much the order of the day here.

What joy to find we could get a bus back, but we were warned to flag it down as it was a request only stop. Just as it came around the corner, I realised I’d left my walking pole in the cafe. Stick or bus(t)? Bus! Luckily, we managed to contact the cafe and they’ve put it safe until tomorrow.

Solva

Back at the van, wet clothes hung up to dry again, wine & crisps for the Saturday night consolation prize.
