Had a fantastic meal last night …apart from when they bought black squid ink spaghetti with sea urchin for our pasta course – it was meant to be a shrimp đŠ thing. They were very apologetic – we did try it, but just couldnât make ourselves like it. Looking forward to a lie in this morning, but at 7am there was the distinct sound of metal poles being thrown around. We had parked in a market place that the review said was no longer used – apart from one burger van. As long as you donât park near the burger van youâre on for a quiet night! Well, the market was fast assembling around us, so a quick getaway was in order. Didnât even have time to put my contact lenses in – had to put sunglasses on top of seeing glasses …not my best look! We drove up to nearby Cavagrande gorge – quite a spectacular view for morning coffee and re-humanising! We then went back out to the coast to San Lorenzo on the edge of a nature reserve. It was a difficult job trying to get to the sea. Lots of narrow lanes and sooo much rubbish. Its absolutely everywhere in Sicily so far. Big heaps of it in the countryside, all bins overflowing, bags piled up on doorsteps in the towns. It doesnât help that there are so many poor stray dogs and cats around all scavenging for food. We found a nice little beach but there was a huge Alsatian wandering round and we were worried about Rufus. We are right at the bottom of Sicily now, and in the middle of nowhere was a sculpture commemorating the death of 17 refugees just off shore. Tend to forget that Sicily ainât that far from Tunisia. Carried on south to the bottom – all the Camperstops we headed for didnât exist anymore. Got stuck in a town called Pachino because I had two different sets of directions running at the same time – norp! Now, we are just a little way along the south coast near a place called Bove Marino. Beautiful beach and spectacular sunset – not ever so warm though! Hoping for a quiet night with just the sound of the sea!
