Once again, we limped into Luxembourg on fumes this morning. With over 20 centimes difference per litre, we put the bare minimum in yesterday to get us over the border. I did start to worry a bit though when we went through a long tunnel.
As we arrived at Dinant, we turned onto the road that runs along the riverside. Having never approached from the south before, we were totally unprepared for being squeezed between two giant rocks! “What’s our width?”
“I don’t know, I thought we wrote it down somewhere”
(This happens every time!)

Before I knew it, Guy had miraculously got us through the gap unscathed.
Parked up and went for a walk along the river. The birthplace of Adolphe Sax – inventor of the saxophone, Dinant is a beautiful town backed by steep cliffs upon which sits a centuries old citadel, now a museum. We considered walking up to the citadel but there were huge queues so abandoned the idea.

It was only mid afternoon and we’d covered the town so decided to move on. Of course, the minute we decide to do this late in the day, we can never find another suitable parking space.
Following the River Meuse, we ended up back in Namur where we know that we can park up at the castle. Checking all the parking on the steep cobbled road up, it suddenly dawned on us that there was a Halloween spooktacular on this weekend, complete with circus tent at the top. Knowing we’d be in for a noisy night, we turned around and headed out of the city.
I found ‘quiet’ parking in a village about 20km away and we followed a convoluted route to get there. You could’ve heard a pin drop when we arrived, but now it sounds like a wild party is starting in the village. Just hope they don’t decide to ‘trick or treat’ us. 😬
