Funny kind of day – it’s difficult to know what to do when your legs aren’t working. We drove towards Thun and then turned south into the mountains. Could have done with getting some washing done on a campsite, but we called at three and all were full! A Swiss man has just told us that their government has done its best to persuade the Swiss to stay in Switzerland this summer which is why the campsites are so packed.

Ended up parking in Gstaad for lunch and we had a little wander round in the heat. Should have put a dress on – it’s a bit upmarket, with Prada, Luis Vuitton etc. present on the high street. Quite pretty though and not too busy. Some interesting sculptures outside one of the shops. There was a vending machine for cheese would you believe which gave rise to the quote of the day from loud American…”Oh my Gaaad, they’ve gad an audomat for cheese”!!

Drove up to the Col du Pillon and parked up at the cable car station which serves the Glacier 3000. Hyped up to the hilt, there’s a metal walkway between two peaks built by Tissot of course. £160 for the two of us – we can see it from the road and have decided it ain’t worth the money.

Spent what was left of the afternoon baking in the car park watching the cable cars go up and down.

Gstaad and Not the Glacier 3000
