Driving day today – the long road to Zagreb. Nothing to see on the way out of Hungary really ….just flat fields mainly full of maize. There was a queue of about six cars at the border, which we found quite unusual as normally we’ve just driven through from country to country without any checks whatsoever. When we got to the front, they asked for passports, then the woman said “Open the door please!” Rufus wasn’t sure at all about letting her in. She just stuck her head in the door then said ‘ok’. As we drove forward, we realised that was just a check for coming out of Hungary – we then had the entering ‘Croatia’ check! Very odd.
Croatia was different straight away. The roads were definitely better. The houses are all chalet style, built out of blocks but then they seem to forget to render half of them. We decided not to go into Zagreb as we didn’t fancy another city just yet, so we turned southish onto a road which would take us toward the Plitvice Lakes. We’d found a parking spot on the ‘Park4night’ app in a town called Karlovac. When we pulled in next to the library , we were surrounded by grotty tower blocks. Took Rufus a little walk on the grass and got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Moved on to this campsite about eight miles away. It’s lovely, friendly staff and a beautiful river everyone is swimming in. It’s been over 30 degrees today – the campsite chap says it’s normal for September, but then so is rain.
