Well, that was a cold night on the Furka Pass. It poured with rain and in the morning you could see the clouds sweeping up the valley. We even had the heating on for a while 😮
Drove a little further along and stopped at the Belvédère Hotel, made famous in a James Bond film (Guy reckons!). Got a glimpse of the Rhône glacier but didn’t want to pay to walk through it – looked a bit dirty grey and much smaller than when we last saw it about thirty years ago.
We veered off to the right soon afterwards and came along the very scenic Grimsel Pass down towards InterLaken. Lots of glacial lakes, dams and spectacular rocks.
Once down in the valley, the sun came out and we stopped at the lovely village of Iseltwald. The lake was impossibly blue and the whole place was like a picture postcard. Back at the van, when the water suddenly stopped coming out of the taps, Guy realised he’d drained all our fresh water away instead of dumping the grey 🙄 Schoolboy error made easier by both taps being in the same cupboard – I can see that he needs more training in this area though.
Drove on to InterLaken where we made a stop at Lidl before heading to Lauterbrunnen. Some of the campsites were tip top prices and still very full, so we drove up and down like fools trying to decide where to stay. Settled for this place about 3km up the valley as although it’s expensive tonight, the Acsi card kicks in tomorrow so will be much more reasonable.
Amazing views all around but now the clouds have rolled in and the heavens are open again.
