Another mosquito attack in the night ! It was very hot too, so not much sleep to be had.
We set off around the lake, calling at a viewpoint over Weggis. It was a bit hazy but spectacular views. Managed to fill up with water at a service station – always a bonus!
Many wiggly roads as we approached the Gotthard – we were on the old road as opposed to the motorway. It seemed like they had suddenly decided to close the tunnel for some reason and all the traffic got diverted onto our road – it was chaos for a while.
We parked in a lay-by between two old bridges a couple of miles apart. We walked uphill and through a long tunnel to the first one. There was also a monument here as it’s where the Russians fought off Napoleon’s men. A Swiss man told us the story after he’d said ‘sooo, you come from England to Switzerland‘ then laughed just like BlackAdder!…I don’t know what’s so funny about it?
Downhill next, to the very old bridge- 11th century. Guy had a scramble on the rocks with all his tech dangling precariously around him, then we walked back up the hill – made us feel very unfit!
Drove on to find a parking place and somehow ended up at the top of the Furka Pass. Many people are camping and it’s much cooler.
All the bags of rice and muesli have expanded due to the change in air pressure. I’ve managed to rustle up tuna salad surprise for dinner – there’s no lettuce, no cucumber, no peppers and to cap it all, no tin opener…oh!
